The United States is a pluralistic society with a majority Christian population and a secular government. Each year, elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels use their religion beliefs to curry favor with constituents and to show up opponents.

We do not support regulating any individual’s religious beliefs—even those of elected officials. However, we do believe that religiously motivated legislation that would have the effect of forcing all citizens to live by the majority’s religious beliefs is wrong and unconstitutional.

We oppose all exemptions from the law on the basis of religious belief. We oppose the special treatment of one religious perspective over any other, or over non-religion.

A government which treats all religious beliefs equally and makes laws based on science, reason, and the best evidence available is the only way to protect the most fundamental rights of all citizens.
