LGBT Equality

The arguments against marriage equality and for allowing discrimination against members of the LGBT community are overwhelmingly religiously based. Individuals and businesses which oppose equality for the LGBT community continue to frame their requests for exemptions from civil rights legislation as a religious freedom issue.

Religious beliefs are not a “get-out-of-the-law-free” card. We oppose all attempts to weaken existing or future civil rights legislation with false definitions of religious freedom. If houses of worship wish to discriminate in their policies, that is their choice. But all for-profit endeavors and public accommodations must be subject to the same laws, regardless of the religious beliefs of their owners or employees.
